Terms of Service

By working with Thinkwell, you agree to the terms below.

Last updated: January 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the services provided by Thinkwell Philosophical Counselling ("Thinkwell", "we", "us", or "I"), including individual sessions, on-site counselling for business staff, ethics consulting, and any related materials or communications.

By booking a session, submitting an inquiry, or engaging our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

1. Nature of Services

Thinkwell provides philosophical consulting using Logic-Based Therapy (LBT), a structured philosophical approach accredited by the National Philosophical Counseling Association (NPCA) among other philosophical techniques like Socratic dialogue. Services involve collaborative dialogue to explore life's questions, values, beliefs, ethical dilemmas, decision-making, emotional resilience, and personal meaning.

Philosophical counselling is not psychotherapy, psychological counselling, medical advice, or treatment for mental health conditions. It does not involve diagnosis, treatment of mental illness, prescription of medication, or any clinical intervention. It is a non-medical, forward-focused process aimed at fostering wisdom, clarity, and intentional living through philosophical inquiry.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal thoughts, or require clinical treatment, please contact a licensed mental health professional, emergency services (e.g., dial 112 in South Africa), or organisations such as SADAG (South African Depression and Anxiety Group) at 0800 567 567.

2. Client Responsibilities

  • You confirm that you are at least 18 years old or have parental/guardian consent if under 18.

  • You agree to provide accurate information about your concerns and engage openly and honestly in sessions.

  • You understand that outcomes depend on your active participation and that no specific results are guaranteed.

  • You are responsible for your own decisions and actions arising from sessions.

3. Confidentiality

All information shared during sessions is treated as confidential, except where required or permitted by law or if there is an imminent threat of serious harm to either the client him/herself or others (e.g., imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, child/elder abuse, or court order).

We comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in South Africa. Your personal data is collected only as necessary for providing services, scheduling, and communication. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

4. Fees and Payment

  • Fees are as stated on the website at the time of booking (e.g., R900 per individual session; packages and corporate rates vary).

  • Payment is due in advance via [specify method, e.g., EFT, PayFast, or invoice].

  • Rates are in South African Rand (ZAR) and include VAT where applicable.

  • No medical aid or insurance reimbursement is available, as this is not a clinical service.

5. Scheduling, Cancellations, and Refunds

  • Sessions are booked via the website or direct agreement.

  • Cancellations or rescheduling must be made at least 48 hours in advance for a full refund or credit.

  • Late cancellations (less than 48 hours) or no-shows incur the full session fee.

  • Packages are non-refundable but may be transferable with approval.

6. Session Format

Sessions are typically 50–60 minutes, conducted online (via Zoom or similar) or in person at the Thinkwell counselling premises, unless otherwise arranged.

On-site corporate sessions follow agreed terms.

7. Termination

Either party may end the counselling relationship at any time. Unused package sessions may be refunded pro-rata at our discretion.

8. Liability & Disclaimer

Services are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Thinkwell shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, or consequential loss arising from the use of services.

You agree to indemnify Thinkwell against any claims arising from your misuse of insights gained.

9. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

10. Updates to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of services constitutes acceptance of changes.
